The Current Situation:
America is on an unsustainable energy trajectory. We are unnecessarily dependent on fossil fuels that are limited, increasingly expensive, and pollute our water and atmosphere. Our government wastes billions subsidizing these fuels of the past while comparatively ignoring critical new technologies and energy sources. Becoming a global leader in clean energy will create millions of jobs, increase our energy independence, and leave a cleaner, safer world for future generations.
Better Government Party Future:
Clean, renewable energy will power our future. There have been exciting developments in a wide variety of emerging new energy technologies, such as wind, solar, geothermal, tidal, advanced batteries and more. But all of these alternatives still lag behind fossil fuels in funding, development, and deployment. We must invest in these technologies if they are to play the role they need to play in the 21st century.
We believe in strong, enforced environmental protection. Our government has ignored the warnings about climate change for far too long. One way or another, we must put a price on carbon emissions. The free market works, but only when costs and benefits are properly valued. Currently, energy companies are allowed to pollute our atmosphere for free. If we don’t make them pay now, then we will all pay the price down the line.
The energy lobby is one of the most heavily entrenched special interests in Washington. So every year, we waste billions of taxpayer dollars to subsidize Big Oil and King Coal. That money represents the worst in government waste and corruption. Oil and coal are mature industries, whose companies bring in record-breaking profits year after year – despite catastrophic accidents that devastate our environment, take innocent lives, and ruin many more. Corporate lobbying should never be allowed to outweigh the well-being of average Americans. Before we cut funding for education or health care, let’s end these massive, senseless corporate handouts.
